Newaygo Lions defeated Grant 10-0 on Tuesday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. The Lions secured the victory thanks to six runs in the fifth inning. The Lions opened up scoring in the first inning, when Noah Graff’s sac fly scored one run for Newaygo.
Newaygo scored six runs in the fifth inning. The Lions batters contributing to the big inning included Andrew Goodin, Nick Simington, and Jarred Heideman, who all drove in runs.
Heideman led the Lions to victory on the hill. He went three and two-thirds innings, allowing zero runs on one hit and striking out six. Jacob Polasek threw one and one-third innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Newaygo Lions had all cylinders firing on offense on Tuesday, winning big over Grant 10-3. In the first inning, Grant got their offense started when Lesley’s sac fly scored one run for Grant.
Newaygo pulled away for good with five runs in the third inning. In the third Noah Graff grounded out, scoring one run, Andrew Goodin grounded out, scoring one run, Nick Simington doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run, Jarrod Heideman singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, and Cam Bitson singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
Conner Swinehart took the win for the Lions. He surrendered three runs on four hits over four and two-thirds innings, striking out three. Jacob Polasek threw two and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Swinehart went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Lions in hits.
The night was capped off by celebrating the seniors: Cooper Heinzman, Jarrod Heideman, Nick Simington, Jacob Polasek, and Tony Hubbard.
The Lions will travel to Morley Stanwood on June 1st for the first round of districts where they will face either Kent City or Central Montcalm at 10:00am.
