Lions News · Gonzalez and Bergers Qualify for State


On Friday afternoon, the Lions travelled to Kent City for the MHSAA regional meet in which Newaygo had two athletes hit qualifying marks for state.

Sophomore, David Gonzalez jumped 19’10” in the long jump for 2nd place, and Senior, Tylor Bergers went 12’3″ in pole vault for a third place finish. Both athletes will travel to Comstock Park on June 2nd to compete at the MHSAA State meet.

At the regional meet, the Lions also had medal winners in 5 events. For the boys, Nolan Brockway finished 4th in the 110m Hurdles; Jarrod Wismar finished 4th in the 400 meter run; and Dalton Jones, David Gonzalez, Zachary Rodriguez, and Anthony Hudson finished in 7th in the 4x100m relay. For the girls, Daisy Hagen hit 29’02” in shot put for a 5th place finish, and the 4x800m relay team of Samantha Dosch, Haleigh Schmitt, Liza Nausadis, and Ellie Nausadis finished in 8th place with a time of 11:28.67.
