Lions News · Wrestling: Mccracken Headed to State

On Saturday, two Lion wrestlers travelled to Fremont to compete in the MHSAA Regional Individual wrestling meet; Seniors Nick Simington and Makiah Mccracken. Simington went 1-2 on the day and Mccracken finished 2-1.

Nick fell just one win shy of qualifying for his first state meet and finished in 5th place while Makiah finished in fourth and punched his ticket to Ford Field in Detroit. This will be Makiah’s third trip to the state meet in which he is hoping to make it his best finish yet. This season has already been a milestone season for Mccracken who picked up his 100th career win earlier this year.

“Makiah and Nick both worked extremely hard this season, and it is always sad to see an athletes season come to a close. I am proud of Nick and his fight all the way to the finish. He put everything he had into every match and it showed. I am excited to watch Makiah compete at the state meet again, and we are really hoping for a top finish. Makiah puts everything he has into every match,” Coach Coucke.

I asked Makiah for a quote, and here is what he said has been his motivation for every match,  “To succeed is to be sought after by all, but actual success has to be determined from day one.” Makiah will have his first match on Friday, March 2nd at Ford Field in Detroit.

Great season Nick, and best of luck to Makiah in his final wrestling matches of the season.
