The Newaygo Baseball Team was Crowned District Champions on Saturday June 3rd after defeating Kent City in the semi-finals, and then beating Morley Stanwood 8-3 in the finals.

Newaygo Lions Varsity Jumps Out To Early Lead In Victory Over Kent City In Game 1 of District Play
Newaygo Lions Varsity jumped out to an early lead over Kent City and took home a 7-2 victory on Saturday. Newaygo Lions Varsity scored on a error in the first inning, a walk by Jarrod Heideman in the first inning, a wild pitch in the first inning, and a double by Andrew Goodin in the second inning.
Conner Swinehart earned the win for Newaygo Lions Varsity. He tossed six and two-thirds innings, surrendering two runs, eight hits, and striking out four. Campbell took the loss for Kent City. He threw five and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs, six hits, and striking out four.
Elliott started the game for Kent City. He pitched one-third of an inning, surrendering four runs, and one hit.

Newaygo Lions Varsity Wins Back-And-Forth Affair Against Morley Stanwood
Newaygo Lions Varsity took the lead for good in the sixth inning to capture a back-and-forth game from Morley Stanwood by an 8-3 score on Saturday. The game was tied at three with Newaygo Lions Varsity batting in the top of the sixth when Noah Graff singled off of Edgerly, driving in one run.
Jarrod Heideman earned the win for Newaygo Lions Varsity. He threw six and a third innings, surrendering three runs, eight hits, and striking out six. Edgerly took the loss for Morley Stanwood. He pitched seven innings, surrendering eight runs, 11 hits, and striking out three.
Newaygo Lions Varsity had 11 hits in the game. Nick Simingoton, Andrew Goodin, Graff, and Conner Swinehart each collected multiple hits for Newaygo Lions Varsity. Swinehart, Graff, Goodin, and Simingoton each collected two hits to lead Newaygo Lions Varsity. Newaygo Lions Varsity didn’t commit a single error in the field. Lay had six chances in the field, the most on the team.

The Lions will play Reed City on Saturday June 10th at 10:00am at Morley Stanwood High School in regional action.
