Heideman Throws Shutout As Newaygo Lions Varsity Defeats Reed City

Jarrod Heideman didn’t allow a single run as Newaygo Lions Varsity defeated Reed City 5-0 on Thursday. Heideman allowed just three hits and got Morrison to hit into a fielder’s choice to end the game.

Newaygo Lions Varsity scored four runs in the fourth inning. The big inning was thanks to a double by Cooper Heinzeman and a error.

One bright spot for Reed City was a single by Straub in the first inning.

Newaygo Lions Varsity had seven hits in the game. Heinzeman and Dylan Burkholder each collected multiple hits for Newaygo Lions VarsityHeinzeman led Newaygo Lions Varsity with three hits in four at bats. Newaygo Lions Varsity was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error.

In game two, Newaygo Lions Varsity watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 4-1 loss to Reed City. Reed City scored on a single by Austin and a single by Phenix in the first inning.

Reed City took an early lead in the first inning. Reed City scored one run when Austin singled with zero outs in the first inning.

Cooper Heinzeman led Newaygo Lions Varsity with two hits in four at bats.

Jacob Polasek pitched 6 2/3 innings scattering 5 hit, 3 walks and 6 strike outs.

“We had two costly errors in the game that lead to a couple of their runs.   We left 8 guys on base.   We just couldn’t get that timely hit this game”, said Coach Jerry Bomay.

The Lions will be back in action on Tuesday against Orchardview at Newaygo.
